Christmas and Holiday Monopoly Editions

Sixteen editions here carry a holiday theme, and almost all of them are Christmas. The list runs from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and two Elf boards through to Gremlins, A Christmas Story and four takes on The Nightmare Before Christmas.

These sell in a narrow window and then sit for eleven months, which is worth knowing if you're buying one as a gift. Most of them are film tie-ins, so the right question isn't which board plays best. It's which movie the household actually puts on.

How to choose

The Christmas Vacation edition is the strongest pick for adults. Tokens include a squirrel, an egg nog glass and a chainsaw, all lifted from the film, and it's listed for two to six players at fifteen and up with sessions running over an hour. Treat it as a December evening rather than something you squeeze in before dinner.

Elf has two boards in the catalog, a 2021 Winning Moves printing and a 2024 release. The Winning Moves one runs a route from Santa's Workshop to the Empire State Building and is rated eight and up, which makes it the easier one to put in front of kids.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is the busiest license on this page with four listings. The Winning Moves board puts Spiral Hill, Dr. Finkelstein's lab and Jack's tower on the map, and because the film straddles Halloween and Christmas, it earns two months on the table instead of one. There's also a Hot Topic exclusive pre-release in here for anyone chasing the harder printings.

Gremlins is the odd one and the best sleeper. Kingston Falls sets the board, the movers are Gizmo, a boombox and popcorn, and the investments run to Christmas lights and displays. Two to six players, ages eight and up.

A Christmas Story from USAOPOLY dates to 2009 and comes with no component list, so buy it for the license rather than the contents.

What's in this list

The Holiday tag cuts across categories, so a themed edition, a places edition and a merch listing all end up next to each other on this page. Anything with a franchise attached also appears on that franchise's own page, which is why the four Nightmare Before Christmas boards also sit on their own franchise page. Five of the sixteen entries are Mr. Monopoly costumes and a dog toy rather than games, so read titles before adding anything to a cart.

Every dated listing here falls between 2009 and 2024, and eleven of the sixteen are boards you can put on a table tonight.
